CONTROVERSIAL DOCUMENTARY “ELEMENTARY GENOCIDE” PREMIERES
Award-winning filmmaker & journalist Rahiem Shabazz debuts film to reignite Rev. King’s dream
(Atlanta, GA) Rasha Entertainment will premiere award-winning filmmaker and music journalist Rahiem Shabazz’s latest documentary “Elementary Genocide: From Primary to Penitentiary” in Atlanta, GA on Monday January 20, 2014 at the historic Plaza Theater located at 1049 Ponce De Leon Ave in commemoration of the Martin Luther King holiday weekend. Shabazz envisioned introducing the film on King holiday to honor the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and to encourage the community to continue pushing towards the fulfillment of King’s dream.
“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on Military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.” – MLK
“We lost Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. over five decades ago yet African-Americans continue to struggle with social and economic disparities, which has resulted in a mass re-enslavement of African-Americans especially males through the prison industrial complex,” states Shabazz.
The premiere of “Elementary Genocide” will be followed with a roundtable discussion and Q&A featuring director Rahiem Shabazz, Dr. Torrance Stephens, notable hip hop artist Killer Mike, Supreme Understanding, Kalonji Changa and Edward Garnes Jr.
“The vision behind the documentary is to open up critical dialogue around the consequences of the failing school system, the prison industrial complex and the steps to achieve social change,” Shabazz explains.
The premiere of “Elementary Genocide: From Primary to Penitentiary” is slated for Monday January 20, 2014 5PM at the Plaza Theater located at 1049 Ponce De Leon Ave Atlanta, GA.
